May 02, 07 | End of Semester Update
I got a new pc from Dell. I am very excited to have it, though it came preloaded with Windows Vista, which has had a few problems. For example, iTunes is currently not supported, so I am still having to watch The Office on my older computer. Also, Vista needs permission to do anything, which while clearly secure, is somewhat annoying. Nevertheless all the bells and whistles look slick. I especially like the new search function (though Google Desktop accomplishes the same task). Other than the operating system, the computer is sweet. Within the next couple weeks, I plan to obtain a site-licensed copy of Red Hat to install, so that I may avoid using Vista.
On the ultimate scene, the season is now, unfortunately, over. Regionals was this past weekend in Austin, where it wasn’t the heat, but the humidity. We came into the tournament as the 8 seed, due to a lackluster finish against Wash U. at sectionals. Our pool consisted of (in ranked order) Texas, Us, Truman St., Auburn, and Texas B. (How Texas and Texas B were allowed to be in the same pool is beyond me.) Our first three cames were against those teams ranked below us, whom we beat with relative ease.
The final pool play game was against Texas. This was most definitely the best game of the day. We came out fired-up and took an early lead. However, it was Texas who took the game to half to make the score 6-5. The second-half was more of the same, each team going up and down breaks until finally Texas pulled away to win 11-9. It should be noted, however, that we put up more points against Texas than any other team this weekend. After the Texas game, we dropped to the second-place bracket where we beat an annoying Vanderbilt to stay in the tournament.
The next day, we again came out playing hard, and we rolled Texas A&M (the 4 seed). After that, we were up against the 2 seed, Texas St, who had just come off a tough loss in the semis to Kansas. This was probably one of the best games of the tournament with many ups and downs, and both teams staying fairly even (though we were up 8-5 at half). After half however, Texas St. came away with the win after scoring on double game point to make the end score 15-14, another disappointing loss. This then put us out of the running for the 2 bids to Nationals, and thus ended our season. Nevertheless, we did play well most the weekend. And despite not finishing two big games, I was pleased with our performance.
In other news, I have finals next week, which should keep me busy. I have four, all at 8am, on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Worst final schedule to date. Wish me luck!

I wish we could’ve seen you play, but I don’t miss living in that nasty humidity in Texas!
Thanks for the update! Keep ‘em comin’.
