Feb 18, 10 | Touchpad not working HP Mini 311 (SOLVED)

So, this is probably the stupidest fix I’ve ever had to perform. Recently I bought an HP Mini 311 and two days ago, the touchpad stopped working. At first I thought I had just turned it off accidentally, but then I realized there is no touchpad on/off toggle button. (Note: The touchpad stopped working after I was trying to open and close both gnome-do and guake as fast as possible.) Anyways, I called HP Support today, and here is how it was fixed:

1. Turn off laptop.
2. Remove battery.
3. Hold power button for 30-40 seconds.
4. Put battery back in.

Pretty lame, but this will save you a call to India. I guess current stored in the machine was somehow blocking the communication with the touchpad. I tried to ask more about what was going on, but to no avail.

Thanks, Ethan. Can’t see myself buying another HP in the future if they can’t get the voltage levels right on their hardware.

The same happens to me. Pathetic bug of hp laptops, and happens on both of hp laptops I have. Don´t know why do they (hp support people) don´t say it as simple as you solve it. Thank you.

I found that reformatting without the original mini311 drivers solves these problems

just reformat to win 7 32-bit, install this program called touchfreeze and the touchpad becomes awesome

Touchfreeze:

Worked like a charm. Thank you so much!

It’s always some completely esoteric solution that only the original engineers of the device could figure out.
